Krystals Bio
As I grew older, it became increasingly clear that these barriers had not disappeared. Despite small improvements over time, many of the same challenges remained. This was deeply disheartening and highlighted the ongoing exclusion deaf people continue to experience across healthcare, education, employment, and public services.
These experiences shaped who I am and how I see the world. They gave me a strong sense of responsibility and a deep belief that access should never be optional — it should be a basic right. No child should have to carry the burden of communication, and no deaf person should be left struggling to be heard or understood.
This journey inspired me to become an advocate for the deaf community and to work towards meaningful change. It ultimately led me to establish my own interpreting agency, with the aim of removing communication barriers, improving access, and ensuring deaf people can engage with the world on equal terms.
Deaf Progress was created not just as a service, but as a commitment — to dignity, inclusion, and a future where deaf people are no longer excluded because of poor communication access
As a Child of a Deaf Adult (CODA), I grew up witnessing first-hand the communication barriers my deaf parents faced every day. From a very young age, I often found myself acting as their translator — in shops, appointments, schools, and public services — simply because information was not accessible to them.
This responsibility came long before I fully understood it. Situations that should have been straightforward were frequently stressful and isolating, not because my parents lacked ability, but because society failed to provide equal access. Watching my parents navigate systems that were not designed with deaf people in mind had a profound impact on me.
